Free Admission for Active-Duty Military Personnel and their Families to 6 Houston Museums, Memorial Day – Labor Day

Six Houston Museums will participate as part of Blue Star Museums, a program offering free admission to all active-duty military personnel and their families. A collaboration among the Department of Defense, Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts and more than 2,000 museums across the United States, the Blue Star Museums initiative runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

These include:

  • Buffalo Soldiers National Museum
  • Contemporary Arts Museum Houston
  • Dunham Bible Museum
  • Holocaust Museum Houston
  • The Menil Collection
  • The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

The Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum in Galveston is also participating.

Some of these museums are free every day to everyone, but I’m especially excited about the Museum of Fine Arts and the Offshore Drilling Rig Museum!

Free Storytime Tours at Rienzi Collection, Museum of Fine Arts Houston – Things to do in Houston this summer!

Storytime Tours MFAHHere is some free fun for your summer!  The Rienzi Collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston is not on Binz, but in an estate on four acres of wooded gardens River Oaks.  If that is not enough to get you interested, MFAH is offering FREE Storytime Tours in June and July!

Storytime Tours introduce children to the magic of art and literature in an intimate, house-museum setting. Rienzi’s Storytime Tour is a fun and interactive activity featuring stories related to themes highlighted in the Rienzi Collection. Families are encouraged to bring a lunch and have a picnic in the gardens following Storytime.

Rienzi is offering free Storytime Tours on Wednesday June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 3, 10, and 17 at 10 am.

Admission is free, but space is limited, so call 713.639.7800 to reserve your child’s spot in advance. Storytime Tours are geared for children ages 3 and up.
