Plan your weekend in Houston, with kids!

Head downtown to City Hall for the Gingerbread Build Off!  This is a free, family-friendly holiday event with an epic, edible battle among dozens of teams, using entirely consumable building materials.  Kids are invited to create their own mini gingerbread houses in the Kid’s Construction Zone, where gingerbread supplies and candies are provided at no cost on a first-come, first served basis.

Skate outside at Discovery Green… and Skate with Santa on Saturday.  You’re probably not surprised to learn that the man in red is a pretty good ice skater.

Go out after dark to see the Zoo Lights at the Houston Zoo, Magical Winter Lights at Gulf Greyhound Park, Lights in the Heights at  Woodland Heights or Sugar Land Holiday Lights at Constellation Field.

Or go to Mr. Popper’s Penguins at Main Street Theater at MATCH.  This performance is meant for families!

Get your costumes ready for Zoo Boo at the Houston Zoo, Halloween Mayhem at Children’s Museum and Oktoberfest at First Evangelical Lutheran Church Midtown!  Keep it out for the KBR Kids Day at Guadalupe Plaza Park where there will entertainment, face painters, balloon artists, birds of prey and a Halloween Costume Parade.

Take your young ladies to the Girls in Aviation Day at Lone Star Flight Museum and take your young artists to the Bayou City Art Festival by City Hall.

Next week, go to my most favorite Toddler Tuesday of all.  Discovery Green will have Touch a Truck event.  Get up close to all kinds of cars and trucks!
