Books for Kids to Read – I Would Really Like To Eat A Child by Sylviane Donnio – BigKidSmallCity Book Reviews

This is Felicia!   My girls and I love exploring Houston and we love to read.  When we’re not at the park, at the museum, eating at the restaurant or exploring the city, we are reading!

This review is of I’d Really Like to Eat a Child by Sylviane Donnio

So the title may immediately make you want you to put the book back on the shelf, but I’d Really Like to Eat a Child is definitely one of Senia’s, my younger daughter, favorite books. (As you can tell, we have a lot of “favorite books”.)

This bright yellow book has outstanding illustrations of a spunky, baby, crocodile named Achilles who one morning wakes up and decides that he wants to eat a child.  His parents, who apparently are vegans, insist that bananas are what’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Bananas make you big and strong, according to mama and papa alligator. Stubborn and spirited, Achilles refuses to eat the other food items that his parents make or buy for him. He then storms out to the local river, where he sees a child that he “attempts” to  eat.  What ensues will make you smile.

This book has a touch of ghastly humor that any child can appreciate and Achilles’ facial expressions are priceless.  Some illustrations of Achilles even remind me of my own stubborn, spunky girls.
