Remember the Houston Water Restrictions – Houston Chronicle Article 8/17/11

Don’t forget about the mandatory water restrictions that I posted HERE.  The city is issuing warnings now.  Subsequent violations can bring fines of up to $2,000 each.

The conservation measure limits watering to hours between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.   Even-numbered addresses can water on Sundays and Thursdays.  Odd numbered addresses can water on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

The regulations also mandate that homeowners repair leaks that occur between the meter box and their homes within 72 hours.

Of course, the water you see pouring out of the sidewalks is another issue.  We’ve seen these all summer and called 311 daily for months.  According to the Houston Chronicle, the Public Works department has hired additional workers to make up 55 crews and is repairing 80 to 100 breaks a day.   As of yesterday, the department had more than 700 active leaks.  The drought is causing our clay soil to move and break pipes throughout the city.
