All Aboard! The Houston Museum of Natural Science has a new Trains Over Texas exhibit… that my kids love.

Through February 20, 2017, you can “Travel Across Texas” by model railroad. It passes through Galveston, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio and more. And right now, there are lots of Christmas trees and holiday decorations.

The best part is under the table, where kids can crawl and watch Thomas the Tank Engineer chug around the secret track.

Get all the details HERE and watch the video at the bottom of the post!

I’d like to write more… but I’m heading over to take my survey now!

Ride the Mechanical T-Rex at Houston Museum of Natural Science!

Who needs a mechanical bull when you can ride a t-rex instead?  Just in time for rodeo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science has moved in this fabulous creature near the ticket counter in the Grand Hall.

For $5, kids can ride this creature for 60 seconds.  Kids must be over 3 years old and under 5 feet tall and under 130 pounds.  General admission is not needed to ride.

The t-rex wiggles and growls rather than bucking off the kids.

Although this is perfect for rodeo time in Houston, the trex is here to stay.  If you miss him in March, you can visit him all year long.

Disney Nature’s Chimpanzee at Houston Museum of Natural Science – Starting September 1, 2012

Disney Nature’s Chimpanzee starts at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on September 1, 2012.

“A remarkable story of individual triumph and family bonds. Journey deep into the African rainforest and meet Oscar, an adorable young chimp with an entertaining approach to life. The world is a playground for little Oscar and his fellow young chimps that love creating mayhem. Full of curiosity, a zest for discovery, joy and a love for mimicking others, they are some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom. Stunning hi-definition images bring you up close and personal as Oscar and his family navigate the complex territory of the forest. It’s an inspiring and life-changing adventure that overflows with courage and charm. And it will capture your heart.”

Houston Museum of Natural Science – New Paleontology Hall Open for Members

The new Paleontology Hall at the Houston Museum of Natural Science is now open for members!  I had a chance to check it out yesterday.

The size of a football field, the hall is filled with over 30 dinosaurs in action poses. Animals are fighting, swimming, flying and one t-rex looks like he is eating museum patrons.

The hall is dark with lighting that makes the dinosaurs glow.

I am a big fan of the new hall and recommend you go check it out. One tip I have is to turn right, rather than left, when you enter the hall. This way you see the spectacular dinosaurs first before your kids get tired. (The hall is so big that if you wanted to look at everything, it could really take 4 hours.)

The hall will open to everyone on June 2 and entrance is included in regular museum admission.

Adopt a Prehistoric Pet – Houston Museum of Natural Science

What to adopt a prehistoric pet?  Well now you can.  At the Houston Museum of Natural Science, you can donate $25 to $5,000 and get anything from a personalized adoption certificate, invitations to donor events and a signed drawing of a prehistoric pet from Dr. Bob Bakker.   All proceeds go to support the new Paleontology Hall.

I like this idea because my kids would be thrilled to “own” a prehistoric pet and I would be thrilled to no have to take it home.  I’ve got enough mouths to feed and messes to clean up as it is!  Maybe Joe will get a pet for his birthday after all…
