Minute Maid from Discovery Green
What are your plans for this week and weekend? Look below for the full list of things to do, in Houston, with kids!

On Saturday, watch a mini-submarine regatta at the Hermann Park reflection pool.  Afterwards, head to Discovery Green for the free Young Writers Workshop, and then in the evening, Flea by Night.  The monthly flea market is not a “kid’s event”, but it’s great for families to browse the booths, listen to music, grab dinner and people watch.

Also on Saturday, you can get half price admission to the Downtown Aquarium.  Print the buy-one-get-one-free admission coupon, for access to the aquarium, to all of the rides and to touch the stingrays.

On Tuesday, join me at Discovery Green for Toddler Tuesday.  This week the kids can be circus stars and walk a real tight rope!  Be sure to also stop by the BigKidSmallCity tent!

Mist Tree at Discovery Green
UPDATE:  It’s looking like a WET weekend… but don’t worry, there is still a lot of fun to be had in Houston!  Since Afloat, a parade on water, has been rescheduled, and Finding Nemo and Rio 2 on on the lawn might be rained out… I have some new favorite things to do in Houston with kids!

Visit Mexico on Friday at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  On Saturday, head to the Downtown Aquarium for half the price.  If it starts to rain, just head inside to pet the stingrays, see the fish or try to figure out why a white tiger lives at the aquarium.

On Saturday you can also make your own shrinky dinks at the Library Card Kick Off Party at the Montrose HEB.

Do you need kids things for a bargain?  There is a Mother’s of Multiples garage sale on Saturday morning, and it will have tons of kids items!  (I’m picturing at least 2 of everything.)

Finally, be sure to join me at Toddler Tuesday at Discovery Green.  The free storytime, activity and character visit is Alvin & The Big Art Show.  Stop by the BigKidSmallCity tent, check out the giveaway and introduce yourself!

Buffalo Bayou from Preston Street Bridge
What are you doing this weekend and week? Houston events are back in full swing so find something fun below!

One of my favorite events is back on Saturday. At this month’s Hands-On Houston, make your own Indigo-Dyed Handkerchiefs. The event is always free and open to everyone. Just stop by the Craft Museum between 11:00 and 3:00pm!

Super Saturday also returns to the Downtown Aquarium this weekend.  Print out your coupon for Buy-One-Get-One-Free Admission to the aquarium, stingrays, carousel and all the rides.

I am excited to check out the Ship Channel Centennial Family Festival on Saturday at the Bayport Cruise Terminal in Pasadena.  This is a free event, but requires RSVP, so grab a spot before you go.  Entry, food, drinks, and parking are free and the event includes a festival, maritime exhibition and entertainment.

At Discovery Green, you will find the No Limits CityFest on Saturday, with live music, food and free activities for kids.  Be sure to also look for the bronze sculptures, Wings of the City, on display starting this weekend.  And finally, go back on Tuesday for a very special Toddler Tuesday.  On September 9, kids can meet real hometown heroes, including the K-9 patrol, Mounted Patrol, fire fighters, EMTs and more!  For this Toddler Tuesday only, the start time is 11:30am and not 10:30am.

The big kids are back to school and Houston venues are taking a minute to breathe.  The events list is much lighter this week, but there is still plenty to do in Houston!

Labor Day weekend is the last time to see the super popular Soto, Houston Penetrable at the Museum of Fine Arts.  Go on Thursday when it’s free or go over the weekend.  Either way, go by September 1!

Saturday is the Young Writers Workshop at Discovery Green and Toddler Tuesdays return this week.  On September 2, join BigKidSmallCity for the Thomas the Tank Engine storytime, character visit and trackless train!

On Wednesday, take the littlest ones to the Children’s Museum Tot Spot for a Mommy Mingle.  It’s free with admission and includes coffee, breakfast and conversation!

This is also the perfect week to do some exploring of your own:
