What a week and weekend Houston has planned! Rodeo, New Years and Dancing!

The Rodeo Parade marches through Downtown on Saturday and the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show opens on Tuesday!  Get ready for three weeks of concerts, bull rides, mutton bustin, carnival rides, horse shows, livestock shows, kids country, food and shopping!  Be sure to get your insider tips for taking kids to rodeo HERE!

On Saturday you can also wrap up your Chinese New Year celebrations with family friendly games, performances and shopping at Houston’s only Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion public elementary school.

On Sunday, head to Discovery Green for ORBITA by National Danish Performance Team.  This free performance is by a team of  28 highly skilled gymnasts from all over Denmark… and looks to be a high flying show that is fun for the whole family.

Train and Water at Hermann Park
Plan on a great week and weekend in Houston with your little Valentines!

Celebrate Love and Friendship at the Bayou Bend Collection. The free family day in the gardens of the Ima Hogg mansion includes crafts, entertainment and tours.  Family days are one of my favorite Houston events… just getting from the parking lot to the property takes you over a long, bouncy, cable bridge over the bayou.  In the gardens, you can wonder through the paths to find the hidden seating areas around each corner.

Make your own fun and find a picnic spot for your little Valentines HERE.  If you make your way to Hermann Park, ride the train as many times as you want, for free, on Saturday.  Membership is $50 per year and gives you free rides every second Saturday.  It also lets you skip the long train line that wraps around the station, every day of the year.  Just head to the front, show your card at the member’s entrance, and get the seats your kids have been begging for.

You can also celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Chinese Community Center.  It is a multi-cultural Asian celebration with a market place of family fun!
