Shady Grove Plaza View of Downtown
Make plans for a great week and weekend in Houston!

Take the kids to Discovery Green to see Oz the Great and Powerful on the lawn, for the free Young Writers Workshop or to skate before the ICE leaves for the season.

Visit the Museum of Fine Arts to Sketch in the Galleries and to take a Closer Look at American Art.

If you haven’t been yet, take advantage of the January Super Saturdays at the Downtown Aquarium.  Print the coupon for buy-one-get-one-free admission.  This will get you in to see the aquarium, pet the stingrays and ride the train, carousel and that ride that drops you from the sky (if you like to be dropped from the sky).

Minute Maid Park
Celebrate Arbor Day at the Houston Arboretum.  At this free event you can get your own native tree seedling, make recycled crafts, play at the nature playground, high five Johnny Appleseed and see birds in flight at the Arbor Day Bird Safari!

Meet the local vendors, shop at the booths, listen to music and people-watch at the Discovery Green Flea.  You can also bring your bike to the free repair workshop!  While you are there, visit the ice rink, play on the playground or visit the little Houston Public Library in the park.

Get your free tickets to Astros FanFest at Minute Maid Park.  You must reserve the tickets ahead of time, but on Saturday the kids can take over the stadium.  Run the bases, take a photo in the dugout, attend Story Time with Milo Hamilton and much more.  For a small fee, you can also throw some pitches or attend batting practice.

Finally, if you haven’t gone yet, be sure to take the kids to Super Saturday at the Downtown Aquarium.  Print out your tickets for buy-one-get-one-free admission to all the Aquarium activities, including the stingray petting tank, the shark tank train and the mysterious white tiger.  (The mystery is why a white tiger lives in an aquarium.)

Bridge over Buffalo Bayou to Bayou Bend
Plan on another great week and weekend in Houston!

Head to Discovery Green for ICE skating, to see the March of the Penguins and Where the Wild Things Are, or to participate in the Young Writers Workshop.

Visit the Downtown Aquarium for half the price on Saturday.  Print the coupon for buy-one-get-one-admission and get access to all activities, including the stingray petting, shark tank train and aquarium.

This weekend you can skate INSIDE the Museum of Fine Arts Houston!  I don’t know what it will look like… but I’d like to see!

In the evening, head to the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center for the Family Owl Prowl.  See the owls up-close in the classrooms and then head out to the dark trails to search for more!

Finally, on Sunday, visit Bayou Bend for one of my favorite Houston events: Bayou Bend Family Day.  This time you can learn about African-American Heritage with actives, music, demonstration and tours of the property.
