Hermann Park Kite Festival
It’s officially Spring and there is a lot to do in Houston, with kids!

Take the family to the Heights Kids’ Day of Music at Love Park. There will be two stages of music, over 20 local arts organizations, instrument petting zoo, singing station, live demonstrations, local food vendors and more!

You can also go to the Kite Festival at Hermann Park. Parking is always tight, so consider taking METRORail or parking in the museum district and walking in.

Also, Rodeo Houston is still going strong… and with Spring Break over, the crowds will be smaller!  For tips on saving money and having fun with kids, go HERE!

Head out to Farm Funland & Strawberry Picking at Blessington Farms or just go searching for Bluebonnets!

And next week, take the little ones on a Tyke Hike at the Houston Arboretum.

Rodeo Houston Fun on the Farm Water Veggies
Spring Break is here!  The calendar is jam packed with things to do in Houston, with kids, so scroll to the bottom to see it all.

Take the kids to Rodeo Houston!  You can see the animals and have fun on the farm, play at the carnival and eat a whole lot of food.  For our tips and tricks for taking kids, not spending a ton of money and beating the crowds, go HERE!

Go to Discovery Green for the new outdoor Roller Rink and for Spring Break Fun.  (Next Tuesday is my favorite Touch a Truck event!)

You can also head out to Blessington Farms for the Spring Break Spectacular!  Here you can go strawberry picking and have fun on the farm!

Or, you can change things up by heading to the theater.  At Wortham Theater, you can see the Houston Ballet’s Cinderella and at Main Street Theater, you can see Ramona Quimby or How I Became a Pirate!

Rodeo Houston Carnival
It’s time for rodeo, crawfish and berry picking!

Starting Thursday, attend the Rodeo Houston BBQ Contest at NRG. Most of the tents are for private events, but general admission gets you a sliced beef sandwich plate with chips and beans at The Chuck Wagon and access to the carnival.  On Friday, watch the Trail Riders ride through Houston!

On Saturday, head downtown for the Rodeo Parade.  On Tuesday, let the 3 weeks of Rodeo Houston begin.  Get our tips for taking kids, saving money and beating the crowds HERE!

On Saturday, go to the Houston Heights for the Crawfish Parade.  The parade precedes the opening of the Festival in near Ashland and 20th Streets. More than 400 Heights-area residents, representing 30-plus schools, civic and non-profit organizations, will march, drum, dance and cheer along the parade route.

Also, on Saturday, go to the Craft Community Day at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.  People of all ages are invited to watch a variety of craft demonstrations, including blacksmithing, book arts, printing, woodturning, basket weaving, and ceramics, and participate in the fun.

Starting this weekend, go to  Farm Funland & Strawberry Picking at Blessington Farms or to the Outdoor Roller Rink at Discovery Green.

Get ready for a great week and weekend, in Houston, with kids!

You know how great Discovery Green is… but now Houston has a new “destination” park!  Levy Park is Re-Opening with a playground, splashpad, performance space and much much more.  At the free re-opening celebration, there will be lots of programming, concerts, face painting, demos and workshops.

Shine a light on congenital heart defects, raise money for The Children’s Heart Foundation, and have a lot of family fun at Graeme’s Run at No Label Brewing.

Explore Texas history by visiting Frontier Family Day at The Heritage Society.  This afternoon of learning and fun will feature musical entertainment and Texas longhorns demonstrating farm life in pioneer times. Tour Old Place, the oldest remaining structure in Harris County, and participate in frontier craft activities for young children.

If you are looking for reasonably priced gear, check out the Poe Co Garage Sale at Poe Elementary.  There will be a whole lot of gear for kids and babies (and everyone else).

You can also attend the Mardi Gras Family Festival and Fun Run in the Energy Corridor. Wear a costume, race in the fun run and enjoy the games, fire truck, inflatables, face painting and more.

Go see How I Became a Pirate or Mockingbird at Main Street Theater, E.T. Film with Live Orchestra at Jones Hall and Stomp at Jones Hall!  (For Stomp, check affiliate Goldstar for discounted tickets.)

You can also attend Homestead Heritage Day at Jesse H. Jones Nature Center.  This is a “living history” look at 19th
century Texas settler life. There will be blacksmithing, black powder weaponry, open fire cooking, and more.

Little kids can also be Little Artists at Museum of Fine Arts Houston.  There is a storybook circle, multi-sensory play, a tour of the galleries and an art project in the studio.

This week you can see the Budweiser Clydesdales at the Anheuser-Busch Tour Center, go the the NFL theme park… the NFL Experience at the George R Brown, attend Super Bowl Live at Discovery Green or even Tour Houston’s Oldest Church next door to the Downtown Super Bowl hub.  When you head downtown, take the train to avoid the traffic.

You can also go to  Hands On Houston: Bookbinding at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft or attend the Lunar New Year Houston at the Viet Hoa Center.

If you want to avoid all the crowds this weekend, check out one of the great Houston Parks .  (Just look for one outside of Downtown, NRG and surrounding areas.)
