The Three Ninja Pigs by Corey Rosen Schwartz – Books for Kids to Read

It’s Felicia! Today’s review is of The Three Ninja Pigs by Corey Rosen Schwartz.

What happens when the Big Bad Wolf decides to pick on the wrong village? In this clever adaptation, sibling pigs reside in a Japanese village and train at an elite Ninja school when they grow weary of a bully of a wolf who runs through the village huffing and puffing their homes down.

The first brother, aka Pig One, takes beginner aikido and after acquiring enough basic techniques, becomes bored and drops out.

The second brother, Pig Two, signs up for jujitsu and after leaning to “block and punch”, is positive that he can overcome the wolf and drops the class. Unfortunately, neither pig is even a close match for the wolf.

Pig Three, spunky sister pig, decides to pursue the art of karate, and practices and studies well for months. After earning her last belt, she is ready to take on the wolf but not before bowing very politely to him, because as you know “Ninjas are very polite”.

She starts with a round of tricks which includes obliterating a pile of bricks and a few butterfly kicks. The wolf takes one look at her readiness and heads for the hills. Her brothers learn from her dedication and run back to Ninja school to better themselves.

Over all, this book has a great message. If you do not get something right the first time and you try, try again, you can always better yourself because practice makes perfect! The moral of the story is complimented with the facial expressions that the pigs make and the wonderful manga style artwork used in this book.

You can feel each pig’s emotion on each page as they train, fight the wolf, or cheer loudly that he has left the village. This book is definitely worth a look!
