Oh My Gods!: A Look-it-Up Guide to the Gods of Mythology – Books for Kids to Read

It’s Felicia! Today’s review is of Oh My Gods!: A Look-it-Up Guide to the Gods of Mythology (Mythlopedia) by Megan E. Bryant.

So after reading the first and second book in the Percy Jackson series, my kids have become very interested in the Greek Gods and Olympians. They have even taken to saying, “Oh my gods” when anything goes wrong , so when I saw this introductory level, Scholastic book, I knew they would enjoy flipping through the pages and reading about the characters they have been learning about.

The book is very basic but the many mythological illustrations that appear on each page accompanied with brief descriptions really captured both my girls. They love the humor that the author has taken with this book.

Each god is assigned funny mottos in this mythlopedia. Hades is the god that says “I see dead people’ while Poseidon is “All washed up.”

Also introduced in this book are the Titan and other deities important to Greek mythology. They don’t know it, but I am really just preparing them to read the Odyssey one summer.

I checked this book out from the library and they fight over it in the car every morning before school and every afternoon on the drive home. Because of that, I will be purchasing it along with the other two books in the series as a stocking stuffers.

Go HERE to find it on Amazon.  Or better yet, shop local and get it at Brazos Bookstore!
