Best Christmas Pageant Ever with Imogene and GladysDo you remember the Herdman kids and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? I read this book as a kid and nearly jumped from my seat when I saw it was coming to Main Street Theater. I could not wait to see the story come to life and introduce it to my own kids.

The Herdman kids are terrible. The 6 of them smoke, swear, lie and steal. The one place that is safe from the Herdmans is church… until they hear about the free refreshments. The kids show up on pageant planning day and the Christmas Story will never be the same.

The Main Street Theater production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, which tells the Christmas Story, was the best, most funny, most memorable Christmas Story I have seen. I really don’t know of a better way to get the family ready for the Christmas season.

Best Christmas Pageant Ever with Beth BradleyThe poor and troubled Herdmans are not all that different than Joseph and Mary in the barn, struggling with daily life. And learning the story of Christmas touches the Herdmans, who bring real gifts to Jesus and make the pageant the best one ever.

This story is made even more memorable by the hilarious cast that keeps kids laughing and fully engaged.  I took 4 of my favorite kids, ages 4, 5, 6 and 7, and they were bright eyed and smiling throughout the entire show.

The kids pointed out our favorite Brittny Bush as Imogene Herdman, the naughty girl that was determined to be Mary.  Brittny has been in almost every Main Street Theater show we have seen and is always, high energy, funny and entertaining to watch.  The same is true for Alan Hall as Bob Bradley and Lauren Dolk as Beth Bradley.  Alan was the humorous voice of reason and Lauren was the one who told us the story.

Senia at Best Christmas Pageant EverRodrick Randall and Shane Manning are naughty Herdmans.  Curtis Barber and Michael Chiavone are  also Herdmans, but are even more funny in their short time as the church ladies, Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Slocum.

Claire Anderson is the weary Alice Wendleken and Scott Lupton is Charlie Bradley.  When Scott was flopping on the floor complaining about having to be in the pageant, I quietly asked my son how goofy that looked.  And I plan to use it later.

New to Main Street Theater was Darin Montemayor as Maxine, Julie Fontenot as Grace Bradley, and Lauren Ashley Miller as Gladys Herdman.  Ashley stole the end of the show as the sweet, and not quite perfect, Angel that visits the Shepherds in the Christmas Story.

I am always impressed at how Main Street Theater can take a little stage and make you believe you are in a home and church and even on the phone line with the gossiping church ladies.  This is the work of Mark Adams (Director), Eric L. Best Christmas Pageant Ever AngelsMarsh (Lighting Designer), Frank Vela (Lighting Design), Ryan McGettigan (Set Design), Macy Lyne (Costume Design), Rodney Walsworth (Properties Design), Danielle Docwra (Production Stage Manager), Vivienne St. John (Theater for Youth Producing Director) and Rebecca Greene Udden (Executive Artistic Director).

The show is an hour and 15 minutes long, including a 15 minute intermission.  After the show, kids can get autographs and pictures taken with the actors.

The theater is small and casual.  You can wear your best Christmas dress or blue jeans.  I even saw a girl in an Ariel wig today!

This show was great and I highly recommend it.  Go here to purchase tickets!
