Things to do in Houston today and this weekend, with kids! October 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 2013

Houston Firefest 2011It’s another big week in Houston!  There is a long list of events, but our all time favorite Houston annual event is this Saturday… Fire Fest!

This annual event is perfect for young firefighters!  There are live demonstrations, with firefighters repelling down buildings and putting out fires, kids zones and much more.  Little firefighters get to put out “fires” with real fire hoses, climb through obstacle courses and learn about fire safety!  See our past review HERE or go HERE to learn more about this year’s event!

FireHoseThis Saturday is also Kids Day on Buffalo Bayou!  This free event has crafts, music, food, performers and kayak demonstrations!

Another option for Saturday is to dress up like a super hero and support Child Advocates at the Super Hero Run at City Centre!

On Saturday and Sunday, head to the Pumpkin Patch Festival at Nature Discovery Center.  There will be festival games for the kids, an obstacle course, horse drawn wagons, crafts and more.

This weekend is also Zoo Boo at the Houston Zoo!  Wear your costume and participate in the Halloween activities.  Try to go on Friday, the least busy day.  On Saturday and Sunday, arrive early, take public  transit  or be ready to circle the parking lot a few times.

Sunday brings two fun events.  Brazos Bookstore is having their Halloween Party and Bayou Bend is hosting another Family Day!

At Brazos, read some creepy picture books, play pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern, make crafts and participate in the costume contest!   At Bayou Bend, you will find activities, music, demonstrations, performances, crafts and more.

Still looking for more?  Discovery Green is always a sure bet.  This weekend you will find the Korean Festival, Flea by Night, kayaks, model boats, movies and concerns.  On Tuesday, toddlers will find Dora, Diego and Boots!
