Books for Kids to Read – The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson

Today’s review is of The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson!

I used to be a huge Calvin and Hobbes fans in the nineties and when bill Watterson quit writing his most successful strip, I was devastated.

Now, my seven year old devours his books and I get to relive the joy of the snowmen, Calvinball, and the horror of Rosalyn the babysitter through her.

I absolutely love to hear her giggling and turning pages and even though it is a comic strip, she is reading and learning new words like besmirching, nincompoop, and eleventeen and I can appreciate that.

Watterson does an amazing job bringing his characters to life and listening to my daughter speak about them and repeat to me the comics that she has read, brings an incredible joy to me.

Her imagination, love of books, and her sense of humor has grown with each Calvin and Hobbes collection I have bought her and all the books are probably her prized possessions right now.

Laughter abounds on each page. These books would also be wonderful for a reluctant reader.  There is no way possible that anyone could dislike these books!

Her favorite (and mine) is The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes, so we suggest that you start with that one first. There is a collection called The Complete Calvin and Hobbes which is wonderful, but I do not recommend for heavy perusing.  It is more of a collector’s set.

Go HERE to get it on Amazon. Or better yet, shop local and head to Brazos Bookstore!
