Things to do in Houston today and this weekend, with kids! September 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 2013

WeLoveHoustonAn awesome thing about Houston is that the fun never ends.  I was worried about the Houston events list thinning out now that summer is over, but our local venues just aren’t letting that happen.

On Thursday you can play Blanket Bingo at Market Square Park.  The $10 admission fee benefits the Buffalo Bayou Partnership.  I think my kids and I will love this event.

Saturday is a good day to Get out and Play.  All day events are being hosted by the Houston Zoo and Discovery Green.  At Discovery Green, Texas Parks and Wildlife will have fishing, paddling, actives, crafts and a live Birds of Prey demonstration!

The 2nd Saturday of the month also means free, unlimited train rides for members of the Hermann Park Conservancy.  The $50 annual membership has a lot of great benefits and supports a great park.

Sunday is the Texas Children’s Art Festival at Bayou Bend.  This free event has art-making workshops, a collaborative group project, games and demonstrations.

Miller Outdoor Theatre has a long line up of kid friendly shows with Night in Frogland, The Lorax, Totally Vocally, Imagination Movers and more.  You can also find the movie, Up, at Discovery Green!

Barney and Firetruck fans should head to Discovery Green for Toddler Tuesday.  There will be a visit from a real fireman and a firetruck with a big purple dinosaur.

And finally, to wrap up the week from Thursday to Wednesday, the City Hall Farmers Market is returning for the fall.  Head downtown to buy your local food and merchandise in the shadow of the skyscrapers.

Look for the long list of Houston events below and this list of free things to do in Houston any day of the week!

  1. Jill, we went to the blanket bingo at market place last night after reading your blog and it was great! We ate at Nikos Nikos, had blankets on the lawn. The bingo started at 7pm and the crowd was very nice. There were not many children at all but our 6-year-old loved it and could stay up late since iday is a day off for him! Thanks for the idea! I really recommend it.
