Books for Kids to Read – Crazy Hair by Neil Gaiman – BigKidSmallCity Book Reviews

This is Felicia!   My girls and I love exploring Houston and we love to read.

This review is of Crazy Hair by Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman is one of my favorite authors and my kids absolutely love his movies and books with Stardust and Coraline being their two favorites, so when I saw Crazy Hair at Half Price Books, I threw it in my basket without hesitation.

Just so you know, I always do read or preview Gaiman’s items that I buy for my kids ahead of them to make sure the themes are not too scary for children.

A few of the reviews on Amazon stated that this book could be percieved as creepy and with the plot being about an Elvis-like man engulfing a child in his crazy hair that contains animals and hunters, I can see how some sensitive children might find it disturbing. My girls, however, do not think this book is  scarier than “Little Red Riding Hood” or any other Grimm’s fairy tale and love the unpredictable adventure the author takes them on.
I love how Gaiman writes for children. He certainly has the imagination, dialogue and original thoughts to keep my children entertained. Another reason I love this book is because it was illustrated by Dave McKean and his style of of collage illustrations compliments Gaiman’s writing. These two go together like mac and cheese.
