“I Love School” Lunch Boxes

I’m on a mission to make my son love preschool. Since I’ve been making him cool lunches, he’s forgotten to launch into the “I hate school” routine each morning. (I don’t think he ever really hated it, it was just a really, uh, fun game we got to play each day.)

Again this week my son told me that he did not want shapes in his lunch. Since this is really my only trick, I asked him for some ideas. He told me he wanted a peanut butter and jelly pinwheel on a stick. So I made one. And yes, it’s as messy as it sounds. I made my pinwheels, put them on a chopstick, tried to blot off the dripping jelly the best I could, and wished it the best. To go along with it, I added a sliced cheese stick to a chopstick and finished off with some cucumber sticks.

After school, I asked my son how it was. He said messy. When I investigated further, the lunch was half missing. The left over half was covered in sand. I think we will avoid peanut-butter-and-jelly-pinwheels-on-a-stick in the future.

For the next lunch, I went Greek. I made a pita bread, hummus, spinach and cheese sandwich, added some left over chicken kabobs and a few cucumber sticks. This lunch looks to have disappeared… so I’m calling it a success.
