“I Love School” Lunch Boxes

Over the last few weeks I’ve been tricking my 4 year old into liking school by packing cool lunches. (I’m certain he always liked school, he was just in a habit of telling me how much he hated it every morning.) So far my plan has been working… This week’s creations are below.

The truck is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut out with a lunch punch.   The peanut butter and jelly seems to stick together best and keep the shape together. The colors were drawn on with food markers.

My son told me he did not want another shape for this lunch. I tried to act cool, but this really takes away my only lunch trick. (Like I’ve said before, I’m not much of a cook or an artist… just a really great cookie cutter outer.) I decided to make a spinach, cheese and hummus wrap and throw in just a few shapes. He seemed okay with the moderate use of cookie cutters.

The last lunch of the week was my favorite. It is a spinach, cheese and hummus wrap, cut into pinwheels and secured with a toothpick. I then added a monster face to the crackers with a cut up cheese stick. After school, my son said the lunch was good but it made him talk to much and almost miss story time. Interesting feedback, but I think I’ll risk the same talk-a-lot lunch again next week.
